Norman G. Finkelstein is an Assistant Professor of political science at DePaul University in Chicago. He received his doctorate in 1988 from Princeton University for a thesis on the theory of Zionism. Prior to joining DePaul University in 2001, he was teaching political theory at Hunter College of the City University of New York. He is best known for his international bestseller book The Holocaust Industry: Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish Suffering (2000) which translated into 17 languages. The Book argued that the Holocaust should not be treated as a sacred event to be exploited by a huge "memory industry" but understood as one of many genocides. His new book is Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History (University of California Press, 2005), a meticulously researched exposé of the corruption of scholarship on the Israel-Palestine conflict. His other books include A Nation on Trial (1998; with Ruth Bettina Birn), named a notable book for 1998 by the New York Times Sunday Book Review; The Rise and Fall of Palestine: A Personal Account of the Intifada Years (1996); and Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict (1995).
