
Michael Albert is a leading critic on political economy, U.S. foreign policy and the media. Albert primarily focuses on matters of movement building and creating alternative media. A longtime activist, speaker and writer, he was a co-founder of South End Press where he worked for about ten years. He has been involved in numerous political and social projects including Z Media Institute and various online projects including ZNet. He currently works as part of the Z Magazine collective where he is co-editor and co-founder of Z Magazine and maintains ZNet and the ZNet Sustainer Program.
A Ph.D.in economics, Michael Albert developed, along with Robin Hahnel, the economic vision called Participatory Economics (Parecon).
He is the author of numerous books, in most cases with his co-author Robin Hahnel. His latest book, Remembering Tomorrow: From SDS to Life After Capitalism (Seven Stories Press, 2007), is a compelling memoir of a half-century living on the Left. Among his other books are Parecon: Life After Capitalism (Verso, 2003), Thought Dreams (Arbeiter Ring Press, 2004) and Realizing Hope: Life Beyond Capitalism (Zed Presss, 2006). He lives in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
